Further Research on Buddhist Ceremonies

Wan Kao Pansa / Wan Awk Pansa

During the first day of Wan Kao Pasa, meaning the monks must stay remain inside the temple for 3 months, people will give candles and light bubls to the monks as offering because they believe that light source symbolizes wisdom. They also offer a special clothe to the monk so that they can use during this rainy season. At the end of the Pansa (Wan Awk Pansa) religious places will place buddhist flags in front of their buildings. There will also be a big ceremony called Tak Baht Tevo which involves placing a Buddha image on a cart inside a bussabok with a big alm infront. Then the monks will walk in rows after the cart downtown so that the people may give offereings (food) to the monk, symbolising the day Buddha himself descend fromt he heaven.

RESEARCH UPDATE

Human and architecture.
Each person can perceived different resolution of different things according to their experience, background and imagination. This diagram is presenting 5 resolution levels compare a human body to architecture. The more experience, background and imagination his or her have, the more of high resolution image they get.

Roleplay resolution survey.
A question is "Draw a Thai's temple, Thai vihara and Thai traditional house with least line used". The diagram shows the level of symbolic resolution and an ornament (masking) resolution from each person. In which this can be apply to the making of the event in the virtual interface.

Site ISO Update.
The background environment was lighten to make the Grand Vihara stand out. The 3 stupas scale was fixed. Also, text font was changed to make the graphic more coherent with other diagrams. And the visitor's visual screens were taken out because it wasn't necessary.

Diagram update

This is additional research that leads towards the choice of topics that will be covered within the virtual space which deals primarily with land use. The diagram represents the link between different issues related land use (circled with brown) and international relations during Ayutthaya which symbolize power and security of the kingdom.

There will be another diagram that will derive from this diagram. It will cover how the issue of land use is integrated with the three pillars of sustainability i.e. environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Additional research of the treasure room inside Phra Prang

Research on the treasure inside Phraprang
There was 3 layers of treasure room inside, which are all kept valuable objects in Chao Samphaya period. The first room consist of the most valuable object that dedicated to his two brothers, such as Phraprang imitation which made with pure golf that contain the buddha relic. Then the second and third room that kept all the royal daily object and others trading objects.

Research of my friends's and my family's value object
The research are survey from my friends and my family. In the question of "What is the most valuable thing to your life?", then different people have their own valuable object which value to them in different conditions such as: feeling, price, giver, history, usage and etc.
Diagram showing the valuable object in the Matter of Fact and Matter of Concern
The diagram show one object that may value to one specific person. The criteria are shown the different currency that in term of fact and concern. In order to lead to the virtual space proposal

Progress on Buddhist Ceremonies / Project Description

Diagram explaining how the ceremonies carried out during the lunar regulated ceremonies.

Growth of Buddhism through Experience
Growth of Buddhism is a creative platform and a virtual network that allows the user to create a new experience based on their personal perspective towards the Buddhist ceremonies and activities. Once the space has been created, it will be saved into the channel of that creator’s account where the other users can access and experience that virtual space. The user will perceive the space through glasses and headphones to see and hear the created and desired experience when they carry out Buddhist activities such as light, chanting etc…
Only people on the site may be able to create the virtual space as the design interface will be done in real time to let the user really explore their selections. Here they will be controlling the light and sound via the simple mass of architecture, all of which will be shared online. This creative network platform doesn’t only just design for Buddhist community, but to also embrace other perspectives of the non Buddhist who may have complete different backgrounds so that they may contribute something which was never done before in the record of Buddhism, hence creating the Growth of Buddhism.

The rhythm of value

The Phantom Momento banking, bring back visitor memories that they may lost it somewhere and want to get that value things or value memories again. The memories can translate it through the visitor perception and thought and express it virtually: place, object, person, etc. Translating the value things thoughtfully into virtually and physically by using the 3d scanner and virtually sphere as a median.

By bringing back the value memories from people’s mind into virtually and physically, serving visitor the new experience and new opportunity for people who may gone through the great experience in the past and want to re-experience it again or even want something back from the past into the present time. It would affect the visitor experience with Principle Prang at Wat Ratchaburana, turning the Thai heritage place into the fascinating way for visitor to bring back their moment, like riding a time machine through their thought and mind.

Update; Grammar of Thai Achitecture

I am working on grammar of Thai Architecture. Thai architecture will be analysed as Thai language to see how the pattern constructed.

These patterns are the basic pattern of Thai ornament. All of Thai pattern came from nature i.e. lotus, flowers, flame, leaves

These are patterns that have been adapted from Bai Phai Thet. (leaves of exotic cotton plant) At this development the patterns work as words. To create sentence the pattern will be added more functions.

Update on Process

Thinking on how the Virtual space would interact, its procedural interaction and end result.

Update

Isometric Drawing of the Sanphet Mahaprasat Palace

The color of the tree has been changed to magenta to correspond with other information that tells the present apart from the past. I have also added annotations to better describe the drawing. However, I think some of the information here is not correct (names of the people). I will look into the research and fix it accordingly.

Virtual interface updates

ISO Drawing

The line weight quality was fixed and the tourist spot's views were added. The tourists were rearrange to group, or couple or individual to differentiate type of tourist. Because I'm still waiting for the Srisanpetch Stupas 3d file from marc, the re-scaling of the stupa will be done afterward I have receive the file.

Mind Map

I called my virtual interface as 'I-dentities online', in which the project was divided into 3 phases.

(1) Ayutthaya grand vihara / real site
(2) Online software
(3) Organization

PS. I don't know what happen to my blog but it don't let me write a post properly. This post I try write it on html page.

Site Isometric Update / Proposal Mindmap (Envisagement of Ceremonial Experience)

Site Isometric Update
The site has been rendered to give the maximum shadow quality and the adjacent ruins have been re-scaled for more accuracy. The image was also re-positioned to focus more on the Grand Hall and not too much of the surrounding elements. Grass and ruins have been made more subtle to make the Grand hall stand out visually. Lines of circulation of the tourist have been removed as it was just a rough approximation. The most anticipated viewscapes have been re-illustrate for more clarity as shown with the blue lines. Natural lighting has been added to show its position. Texts are located next to each of its own elements to give a brief information.

Project Mindmap
Creative Plateform for Ceremonial Experience - it is a virtual network for the Buddhist Community as well as people who are non buddhist that allows them to design their own experience that they desire to carry out Buddhist activities and ceremonies such as mediation. Here the people on site can really experiment and experience how each variables can effect the experience inside the Grand Hall consisting of light, sound, smell, and materials that is related to the activites.

Designing Interface (onsite): Visitors onsite will be allowed to create the virtual space to that creates different experiences through simple architecture massing such as roof that has a skylight creating an ocular natural lighting effect. They will be designing it real time meaning that every selections they make will be shown on the site immediately and virtually. Once they are done, the designed virtual space will be save into their own account channel where other users both onsite and online will be able to access and experience it.

Online: The users online can access any virtual space created by others or themselves and be able to leave comments and feed back. They can also interact with other users who are accessing the same virtual spaces as well as the people own site. Each virtual spaces will be ranked based on the no. of entries.

Medias both for onsite and online: glasses and headphones are required for the user to experience the created virtual space through their sensory organs.

Aside from the daily Buddhist practice, these are the significant ceremonies that I am researching on which has a big potential to drive the virtual space, hence crating the Virtual Grammar.

This is the image of a potential virtual space when it is being design by a non Buddhist user. It can result in the new emergence of ceremonial experience, hence the growth of Buddhism.
